Michael Fiorentino wiped away tears in front of a judge when he learned he was sentenced to three to nine years in behind bars.

In March, Fiorentino admitted to shaking his baby to death. He was living in Cheektowaga with the family of his girlfriend at the time.

During the sentencing, Judge John Michalski told Fiorentino his acts were selfish and callous, therefore youth sentencing would not be an appropriate option.

He also said the case itself was troubling, citing testimony that said Fiorentino shook the baby and placed him back in the crib before going back to bed.

District Attorney Michael Flaherty said this case serves as an example as to how difficult parenthood is, especially for young parents, encouraging any new parent to ask for help. Flaherty also said while Fiorentino is only 17-years-old, he should be held accountable for his actions.
