Two words: Paula's Donuts.

The local donut icon originally owned a different donut franchise and worked in several bakeries before thinking "why do this for someone else when I can do this for myself?"

And there it was -- in 1996, at 40 years old Paula changed her career and started her own business.

So what makes pastries from Paula's so darn good? According to Christy Worthington, daughter of *the* Paula and manager at the Union Road shop, it's the fresh ingredients and wide variety of flavors.

These are the shop's top five best-sellers:

  1. Peanut sticks
  2. Frosted Bavarian
  3. Frosted Angel
  4. Glazed sour cream
  5. Red Velvet

But Paula's goes beyond satisfying our sweet tooth.

"Everyday we strip our cases and we donate all of our donuts at the end of the day to various food banks, City Mission, veterans', women and children shelters," said Worthington. "Basically anything that people ask us for help, we try to help where we can."

What makes Paula's unique? It's simple -- they care.

"We don't cut corners. As prices have raised throughout the years, we don't make our donuts smaller or put less filling in them. We just suck it up and keep on trucking!" Worthington said.

Paula's currently has three locations:

  • 936 Union Road in West Seneca
  • 2319 Sheridan Drive in Buffalo
  • 8560 Main Street in Williamsville

For the WNY donut empire, there are a couple of things in their future.

"Possibly new locations, possibly food trucks, definitely new flavors of the month to keep everything fresh and going!"
