BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — On Sunday, August 30, Western New Yorkers and aspiring singers across the state have their chance to audition for 'American Idol.'

For the 2,000 people who tried out when the show came to Buffalo two years ago, this year's auditions will feel much different.

American Idol auditions are being held virtually this year. The show is holding auditions by state, taking tryouts three states at a time through September 9th. New York State's auditions are coming up on August 30th.

However, the show says aspiring singers can sign up to audition on any day, regardless of their location.

Applicants can sign up at americanidol.com/auditions. Though auditions will be virtual, they will still be live and face-to-face with an 'Idol' producer. The show also still allows applicants to upload a recorded audition online. You must be between 15 and 28 years old to audition.

American Idol airs on 7ABC. You can watch all of last season's episodes on ABC's website.
