BUFFALO, NY (WKBW-TV) — The Buffalo & Erie County Library's Bookmobile stopped by to promote their special mission and support the 7abc "If You Give A Child A Book" campaign.

Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski wants everyone to stop by their local library and sign up for a library card adding that if you do "you'll get a free children's book."

If you don't want to go into the library Mary Jean says you can do it on line "We have an online library card, an e-card you can use for downloadable books, audio and music."

The library has always been in the business of encouraging young readers. Studies have shown that how well a child reads at the end of third grade can affect the rest of their education.

The Scripps Howard Foundation and 7abc have launched the "If You Give A Child A Book" campaign. It's a community-wide effort to get books into the hands of children who need them most.

To donate you can go to our homepage and click on theBuffalo Strong section. A five dollar donation can buy a book for a child.
