(WKBW) — It's the holiday gift that maybe you didn't even know existed and it's called "The Chef and The Dish."
The two-and-a-half-year-old company offers private cooking classes over Skype with world-renown chefs right in your own kitchen.
"Our goal is to give people fun cooking experiences to reinvent their night in and hope to make a couple new friends in a different part of the world while doing it," Founder and CEO, Jenn Nicken said.
Nicken, a native WNYer, started the company to marry her love of food with her tech background.
"I still say my favorite food is wings," she said. She continued, "Part of what I'm trying to do is to preserve these traditional recipes so that people can taste what that dish is meant to taste like."
The Chef and The Dish pair customers with 11 chefs--who Skype from their home country--teaching regional dishes ranging from everything Italian to Singaporean recipes.
"Let's say you want to learn how to make Pad Thai, well what better way then to video conference with a chef in Thailand who is going to teach you the Thai way to do it?" Nicken said.
Foodies can select from more than 40 classes offered. Prices begin at $299 U.S. dollars for two people. Once you book a class, a Kitchen Assistant reaches out to review your shopping list and then it's go-time with a two and a half hour Skype session.
"It's not just a cooking class, it's a cultural experience, as well."
