The National Hockey League unveiled a new format for their All-Star event in 2016. Later this month, when the elite players get together in Nashville for the annual event, there will be a Buffalo Sabres player among them.
The league announced that Sabres center Ryan O'Reilly, who has 16 goals and 34 total points this season, has been named one of the 44 participants of the All-Star event. O'Reilly is the only Sabres player that was selected by the league.
He'll be a part of the Atlantic Division roster in the brand new format, which will feature all four divisions of the NHL participating in a 3-on-3 tournament. Three 20-minute contests will determine the champion of the event that will take place on January 25.
This is the first time O'Reilly has been selected as an NHL All-Star.
