WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBW) — Jack Eichel scored twice and Jason Pominville's shot was stopped in a shootout as the Buffalo Sabres fell to the Washington Capitals 4-3 Saturday night. With the shootout loss, the Sabres fall to 19-9-5 on the season.

The Sabres and Capitals were tied at the end of regulation and neither team was able to score in the five-minute overtime period. In the shootout, Eichel and Tage Thompson both missed their shots while Casey Mittelstadt scored in the 3rd round to keep the Sabres alive. After Alex Ovechkin capitalized on his 4th round shot, Jason Pominville's shot was stopped, ending the game.

With two goals in regulation, Eichel has a five-game point streak. It also marked the first time in his career he's scored against the Capitals. Rasmus Dahlin also added a goal in tonight's game, his third of the season.

The Sabres will next head to Boston for a meeting with the Bruins on Sunday. Puck drops at 5 p.m.
