McEichel day has arrived

The much anticipated day for hockey fans is finally here.  The NHL's brightest rookie stars, Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid, will face each other for the first time.

The two players have been linked since the 2016 Draft.  Both are considered generational superstars.  McDavid was selected first overall by Edmonton.  Eichel was picked second overall by Buffalo.

The Oilers and Sabres play Tuesday night at First Niagara Center.

Both players are downplaying the matchup.

"We're playing the Oilers tonight, we're not playing Connor McDavid," said Eichel.  "He's a key component to their team and a good player. Just be aware when he's on the ice."

Said McDavid:  "For both of us it's just Buffalo versus Edmonton.  It's not about just me or him.  The media always has us pegged as not liking each other or being rivals. We really just don't know each other."

McDavid didn't play in the first Sabres-Oilers matchup this season.  He was out with a broken collarbone.

Face-off is at 7:00 p.m.
