After a strong pro day, former UB Quarterback Joe Licata has had private workouts with the 49ers and Chargers, he told 7 Eyewitness Sports Reporter Nick Filipowski.

Licata, who holds nearly every major passing record in Bulls history, completed 37 of his 40 passes in front of scouts from the Bills and Steelers in early March.

The 49ers, who hired Chip Kelly in the offseason, have questions under center, with uncertainty with the future of Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert.

Gabbert, who spent his first three years in Jacksonville, took over starting duties for the Niners in Week 9.  He went 3-5 down the stretch as San Francisco finished 5-11 and last in the NFC West.

Kaepernick has been the subject of trade rumors the last few months.

Before last season kicked off, San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers signed a four-year extension through 2019.  He's thrown for over 4,000 yards in each of the last three years.

Kellen Clemens (Oregon) and Brad Sorensen (Southern Utah) are the other two QBs on the roster.

Former teammate and running back Branden Oliver plays for the Chargers, but was placed on IR in November with a toe injury.
