BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — For the first time in program history, the Williamsville East softball team can call themselves state champions.

The Flames topped Ballston Spa 3-0 in Saturday afternoon's NYSPHSAA Class A final. They got there by beating Walter Panas in the semifinal round earlier in the day.

Not only did the Flames win the program's first state championship, they won the school's first ever state title in a female sport. The Flames wrap up the season with a 27-0 record and entered the weekend ranked #1 in New York State and #11 nationally according to MaxPreps.

Meanwhile, in Class B, Eden saw their season come to an end with a 5-0 loss to Oneida in the semifinal round.

On the baseball field, Brocton fell 12-1 in Saturday's Class D final against Whitehall. Medina, the Section's Class B representative, fell to Schuylerville 6-3 in Friday afternoon's semifinal round.
