Three hockey teams advance following Friday's Section VI small schools first round games

AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Section VI small schools hockey quarterfinals are set following Friday's first round action. Three teams advanced with wins to join the four that won their games on Thursday and Williamsville South who earned a first-round bye.

West Seneca East, the no. 11 seed, upset no. 6 Depew 2-0. Dan Boyle (power play) and Colin Schmatz (empty-netter) each had a goal in the win while Austin Meidenbauer made 24 saves in the shutout.

Hamburg, the no. 10 seed, upset no. 7 Sweet Home 6-4. Ryan Steiner and Mike Kull each had two goals while Zach Jarosz made 33 saves in the win.

Kenmore West, the no. #8 seed, topped no. #9 Williamsville East 5-2. Three different players scored in the win while Max Pelino made 18 saves.

(#2) Starpoint vs. (#10) Hamburg on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
(#3) Grand Island vs. (#8) Kenmore West on Sunday at 6:15 p.m.
(#4) Lewiston-Porter vs. (#5) West Seneca West on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
