BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Low-risk and moderate risk-sports teams will have to wait a little while longer to begin their seasons. On Wednesday, Section VI announced they are "pausing" winter sports and are moving the start date for low-risk and moderate-risk sports to December 14th.

"With the reality of where we are statistically, we need to assist out Superintendents and other leaders and pause for a moment," Section VI President Brett Banker said. "Our leadership groups across the Section are working tirelessly for our athletes, families, and our coaches."

Sports impacted include bowling, rifle, swimming and diving, alpine skiing, and indoor track and field.

Earlier in the week, Section VI announced high-risk winter sports (competitive cheer, basketball, wrestling, and hockey) won't start until January.
