He's coming off a Section VI title and a top fifteen finish at the New York State Championships, but Orchard Park golfer Ben Spitz is now gearing up for something big.
"It's pretty difficult to get in," Spitz said. "So I was really excited when I found out that I have the opportunity."
Spitz is one of nearly 80 kids nationwide chosen to play in the PURE Insurance Open later this month in Pebble Beach. He's going to be playing alongside some of the greatest PGA Tour champions.
"I'm really looking forward to picking their brains and the different practices that they go through to get to the level that they're at," he said. "So I'm excited to see their game and hopefully it'll elevate my game as well."
It's already elevated the game of Ben's brother. He was chosen for this event four years ago.
"He came back from it and couldn't stop talking about it," Spitz said. "So it showed me how important it was to him and gave me a glimpse of how important it will be for me."
Because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and will give Ben something to aim for.
"I think it'll drive me to work harder to want that in my life later on past college," he said. "It'd be really difficult to get there but I gotta hold on to some hope."
Play begins September 25th.
