BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The high school softball season has long been over for Megan Kyte, but a new competition is about to begin. The rising senior at Nichols School is embarking on a unique opportunity.

"I'm just so excited about it," she said.

Kyte is gearing up to compete in the Canada Cup 2019 Gold Division Tournament featuring some of the top travel teams from around the globe. She's excited to sport the red, white, and blue. Well, not the country you'd expect.

"My dad's from England. He came to me with this idea and my family in England is going to be so excited to see me play for them."

After tryouts and making that final roster, Kyte became a member of the U-18 Great Britain softball team, representing her family overseas.

"Having to represent them is so amazing to me," she said. "I love that side of the family so much and I wish I could represent them more often."

It's been a long season of training. Kyte's been playing with her travel team based out of Virginia and has been having to send in videotapes of her progress throughout these last few months to her U.K. coaches.

Kyte will enjoy this next adventure though as she continues to play the game she and her mom both love.

"She [my mom] has always helped me whether it be hitting or teaching me to play the sport," Kyte said. "It's close to my heart because it's close to my mom's heart and I think that's what's made it so fun for me."

The Canada Cup begins July 8th in British Columbia and will wrap up on the 14th.
