LEWISTON, NY (WKBW) — Lew-Port basketball star Roddy Gayle plans to be a Buckeye.

One of the top prospects in the Class of 2022, currently ranked no. 54 nationally by 247 Sports, has verbally committed to play college basketball at Ohio State University. With help from his family, friends, and AAU coaches, Gayle feels ready to play for the B1G program.

"I think with my versatility that I can play 1-3 would be very helpful with their offense especially with how they move, how they play in transition and they're kind of a half-court offense," Gayle said. "Now I get to enjoy my high school experience and stay in the gym and get ready for college."

Gayle is entering his junior season with Lew-Port and has turned in big numbers during his two seasons with the Lancers. In those two seasons, Gayle has averaged 23.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 steals a game. He also played varsity basketball in 8th grade with Niagara Falls.

Ohio State was just one of the nearly 20 Division-I programs Gayle had offers from. Syracuse, Marquette, Pitt, UConn, and Georgetown made his top six list. Schools he left off the list but had offers from included Kansas, Oklahoma, and Alabama.
