Canisius and Timon win Monsignor Martin boys basketball titles

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Canisius and Bishop Timon are Monsignor Martin champions. Both teams won their championship games Tuesday night to win their respective cups and advance to the CHSAA state games.

Canisius, the top seed in the Manhattan Cup bracket, topped no. 2 seed St. Joe's 63-54. The Crusaders scored the first points of the game and never trailed, leading the Marauders 31-23 at the half.Dewayne Vass had a game-high 20 points to lead the Crusaders to their 8th Manhattan Cup title in the last 12 seasons. They advance to the CHSAA Class A state semifinal game.

Bishop Timon, the top seed in the Woj Cup bracket, topped no. 2 seed Cardinal O'Hara 74-66. The Tigers jumped out to a big start, leading 22-8 after one quarter and 35-19 at the half. Despite the Hawks cutting the lead to single digits late in the game and Avion Harris scoring a game-high 41 points, the Tigers held on to win and dethrone the defending champs. Jamyier Patton led the Tigers with 27 points who will now advance to the CHSAA Class B state title game.
