Former Buffalo Bills safety and Baltimore philanthropist Keion Carpenter has died. He was 39.

Carpenter collapsed while on a run Wednesday and remained in a coma for 24 hours, according to his family.

He was on a family vacation at the time of his collapse and was pronounced dead Thursday morning at Jackson South Community Hospital in Miami, Florida. The family said his remains will be flown back to Baltimore for burial.

Carpenter, a Woodlawn High alumnus, played at Virginia Tech before playing for the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons.

After this football career, he started the Carpenter House, which takes care of those who need it the most.
