Katherine Ups hit a career high four 3-pointers and poured in a career best 16 to help power UB past UMass 61-47 in their season opener on Friday.

The Bulls (1-0) next play Big 4 foe Niagara, which opened the season with a 65-43 win over St. Bonaventure.

UB used a flurry of threes to open up a 20-8 lead after one quarter of play, including back-to-back triple from Ups and teammate Joanna Smith.

Smith finished with six points, while Grand Island native Cassie Oursler chipped in with 13 points and three blocks.
