UB's Tyrone Hill named to Jim Thorpe Award watch list

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Another day, another UB football player getting some national attention. On Monday, Tyrone Hill was named to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list which honors the nation's top collegiate defensive back.

Hill started all 13 games at safety for UB last season. he ranked third on the team in tackles with 70 and led the team in pass breakups with 10. In the team's first ever postseason win, a Bahamas Bowl victory over Charlotte, Hill had five tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.

The year prior, Hill made a huge play in the team's loss to Troy in the Dollar General Bowl, recording a 93-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

The Jim Thorpe Award watch list includes 49 players in 10 conferences. Hill is one of five Mid-American Conference players listed.
