After a breakout junior campaign at defensive back, UB's Boise Ross turned heads and has been named to the Jim Thorpe Award preseason watch list.

The Jim Thorpe Award is given annually to the nation's top defensive back.

Ross transitioned from wide receiver to corner back during his sophomore year, and in his first full season at the position as a junior set a school record for pass breaks ups with 20.  He also had 18 pass breakups and two interceptions.

The 18 pass breakups ranked fifth in the country.

UB kicks the season off on Friday, Sept. 2, against Albany at 7 p.m.
