The quest to defend their Mid-American Conference title officially begin on Saturday, as the UB Women's Basketball team knocked off Miami of Ohio 71-45 in open league action.

Led by Joanna Smith (11 points) and Theresa Onwuka (10 points) all but one player that saw action registered at least three points in the win.

Tied at 21 late in the second quarter, the Bulls closed the half on a 13-2 run to open up a 34-213 lead and never looked back.

The Bulls' smothering defense kept the RedHawks off balance all night as they shot a lowly 25 percent from the floor. UB also forced 17 turnovers which resulted in 19 points.

Buffalo returns to action on January 4, when they travel to Ohio.
