For the second time in three seasons, UB Football has come up empty at Ford Field. The Bulls lost to Ball State 38-28 on Friday night in the Mid-American Conference championship game.
The Bulls opened the game with a promising start that included consecutive scoring drives to start the game. Star running back Jaret Patterson scored his 19th touchdown of the year to tie his own single-season record.
But the Cardinals kept Patterson in check throughout the game: his 18 carries went for just 47 yards on Friday night. Quarterback Kyle Vantrease led a more passing-oriented attack with a 300-yard game, but it wasn't enough.
A Vantrease fumble late in the second quarter was the turning point in the game. Christian Albright took it to the house to give Ball State a 35-14 lead at halftime. The Cardinals never looked back.
UB's first loss of the year knocks them down to 5-1 on the season. As schedules varied throughout the FBS, the Bulls will await the possibility of a bowl game to finish their season.
