CLEVELAND, OH — For the second straight year, the UB men’s basketball team will be playing for a Mid-American Conference Tournament title. The Bulls topped Central Michigan 85-81 in the first semifinal game of the night, punching a ticket to Saturday’s championship game.

The Bulls got off to a sluggish start but eventually took an 11-5 lead into the first media timeout. From there though, Central Michigan went on a run and traded baskets with the Bulls, and took a 42-37 lead into the second half.

The Bulls, normally a second half team, couldn’t stop the hot-shooting Chippewas. It took UB until less than eight minutes left in the game to take their first lead of the half, holding on until the very end with a pair of free throws with seconds remaining.

CJ Massinburg led the Bulls with 21 points and nine rebounds while Davonta Jordan added 16 points and seven rebounds. Three other Bulls ended in double figures.

The Bulls will play for the men’s title on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. They’ll play the winner of the Bowling Green/Northern Illinois semifinal game.
