St. Bonaventure men's basketball head coach Mark Schmidt signed a new contract extension through the 2021-2022 season, the school announced on Wednesday.
Schmidt and the Bonnies tied a program record with 22 regular season wins last year, and set a new program best with 14 wins in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Bona also won a share of the A-10 regular season title, a first in school history.
What many believed the snub of the NCAA Tournament, the Bonnies missed out on at-large bid, but did play in the NIT. They lost in the first round to Wagner.
"I've said many times that Mark is one of the best coaches in the Atlantic 10 Conference," said Athletic Director Tim Kenney in a statement. "This is a well-deserved extension, not just based upon last season but the whole nine years he has been at St. Bonaventure. Mark has set a standard of excellence and we are committed to him long-term as our head coach."
"I am happy to continue to help St. Bonaventure basketball be as competitive as we possibly can," Schmidt added. "We have established the program to the point where we compete every year, and that is mainly a credit to our players and to my staff. I am glad for our players, for the staff and my family to make this commitment."
Schmidt is 146-123 with the Bonnies. His career coaching record in 228-223.
