BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Medaille College is the latest school to cancel athletics for the remainder of the school year. The news comes from a decision made by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, the conference the Mavericks play in.
In a press release Medaille College said they "recognize that this is an extremely difficult decision for our student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators but felt that it is in the best interest to suspend athletically related activities until further notice in order to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes and out of concern for the broader well-being of the greater community".
Spring sports at Medaille College include baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's lacrosse.
According to the school, administrators will begin working closely with the NCAA to secure appropriate participation waivers for spring sport student-athletes should they desire they be granted for next season.
