BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — The winter sports season is well underway for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams and on Wednesday, the league announced a few changes that impact basketball, swimming and diving, and volleyball.
Several winter sports teams including both Niagara and Canisius basketball and hockey programs have had to pause activity due to positive COVID-19 tests among Tier 1 personnel.
The following changes have been made:
- The 2021 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships have been canceled following feedback from coaches
- The 2021 MAAC basketball tournament will be expanded and will now run March 8th-13th. Additional COVID-19 safety protocols will be implemented between games
- Masks are required for the remainder of the volleyball season and must be worn at all times by athletes, coaches, and staff. This will include practices and regular-season and postseason competition
