Canisius tops Marist, Niagara falls to Siena ahead of final regular season games

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Mid-week MAAC conference play was a mixed bag for Western New York's basketball teams. Canisius is working their way out of the conference's basement, while Niagara is fighting for a top-half seed.

Canisius came out on top against Marist with an 85-69 win. Canisius led by double digits at halftime and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half. Majesty Brandon led the way with 23 points off the bench and five three-pointers. As a team, the Griffs shot 57% from behind the arc. The win lifts Canisius out of the basement of the MAAC with a 6-13 conference record.

Niagara meanwhile fell to conference-leading Siena 77-55. It was a back and forth first half before the Saints took control in the opening minutes of the second half, leading by as much as 28 points. Justin Roberts led the Purple Eagles in the loss with a team-high 15 points while James Towns added 13. Niagara drops to 9-10 in conference play and 11-19 overall.

The two teams play each other in the second edition of the Battle of the Bridge at Koessler Athletic Center on Friday.
