Bills defeat Colts in preseason opener

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Bills defeated the Indianapolis Colts 24-16 in Thursday night's preseason opener at New Era Field.

Although the offense put up 24 points the story of the game was the strong Bills defense.

The Bills defense held the Colts to a single field goal in the first three quarters, carrying a 17-3 lead into the fourth quarter. The Colts scored 13 of their 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Eddie Yarbrough and rookie Darryl Johnson Sr. each had a sack and defensiveback Dean Marlowe had an interception off of Colts' quarterback Phillip Walker.

Matt Barkley led Buffalo quarterbacks going 9 of 14 for 126 yards and a touchdown pass to wide receiver Cam Phillips to open the scoring in the second quarter. Josh Allen finished with 66 yards passing on 11 attempts, former UB quarterback Tyree Jackson finished with 45 yards passing on 10 attempts.

Rookies Devin Singletary and Christian Wade led the running backs, Singletary carried nine times for 27 yards and added 21 yards on three receptions. Wade had a single carry, an explosive 65-yard touchdown, which capped off the Bills scoring for the night.

The Bills are back in action Friday August 16th against the Carolina Panthers.
