BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Lenka Čurmová and Iveta Klimášová have known each other for years.

"We played together for five years in Bratislava and even before from national teams," Lenka said.

From the U15 to the U18 to the women's Slovakian national team the duo have played alongside each other on the ice, and their latest journey has led them to Buffalo to play with the Beauts.

"It was a two day tryout and right after the practice, they told us they're offering us a contract," Iveta said.

The experience has been unforgettable and their their hockey IQ has grown a lot since coming to the United States. They're a part of something special and are making history as the first ever Slovakian players in the NWHL.

"This is why we do this, why we play hockey," said Lenka. "We want to show other players that we can play in the NWHL or anywhere else and we can make our dreams come true."

It's always hard moving across the world but the transition's been made easier thanks to each other.

"Being far away from family and living in this different environment is better with a Slovakian by my side," Lenka said.

Along with a special family who's opened their home to both players.

"We didn't know them, they didn't know us but since day one, I feel like a member of the family," said Lenka.

"It's so much fun with our four kids," added Iveta. "We are busy all the time with the four kids. It's so much fun."

You could say the duo have become role models for the kids at home and they're also role models on the ice, setting the bar for younger players back in their home country.

"We're told that it's impossible to be in the NWHL," Iveta said. "I think we're opening eyes to our girls in Slovakia that it's possible."

To follow your dreams and play the sport you love, Lenka and Iveta are doing just that.
