AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — This winter has been great for the ski and snowboarding community. Holiday Valley says almost every weekend has been sold out. That success is trickling down to local shops as their shelves can't be stocked fast enough.

"Every morning I start with checking our vendors and seeing whats in stock, if they have skis or boots I scoop it all up and really hope it ships to us," Trevor Vowles, store manager at The Ski Company, said.

Vowles says sales at The Ski Company on Transit Road in Amherst have been consistent for the past three months. Sales they would usually only do over a holiday weekend.

"Usually there is a little bit of a lull, but everyday has been like the day after Christmas, it just has not stopped," Vowles said.

The Ski Company says a lot of the clientele are first timers and students who have had their sports canceled. This rush for equipment is not exclusive to The Ski Company. Less than a mile down the road, Red Door Ski & Board Shop is feeling the excitement.

"The participation was crazy, people wanting to go out and ski," Jarrett Braun, manager of Red Door Ski & Board Shop said, "helmets, goggles, gloves, all of those things. We would place an order and we would have a shipment come in and later in the day we would sell out of it."

Red Doorbelieves the best thing for many to do is to be patient and possibly wait for next season as many suppliers need to catch up.

"(You may need to wait for) next season, which we're ordering for right now," Braun said, "September, that's when the product comes in for us."

Both Red Door and The Ski Company hope that, when next season does come, these records sales continue.

"Hoping this momentum carries all the way through towards the end of the winter season and into next year," Vowles said.
