Congressman: Your electricity bill set to spike

Congressman Brian Higgins is sounding the alarm about “significant local electricity rate spikes” following the shutdown of the Huntley Station power plant in Tonawanda.

Higgins says on average, Western New York electric rates have gone up between 40-90 percent.

“We have been following this closely and have serious concerns about the long-term impact these market increases could have on Western New York residential and business consumers if left unaddressed," Higgins said in a statement.

He’s now calling on the New York Power Authority to meet its federal obligation to make up for the lost power plant.
