The first WNY yellow arrow installed in Buffalo is at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Kenmore Avenue. The new signals are located at the left-turn lanes as part of a $2 million project to improve intersection safety along Delaware Avenue.
The State DOT will increase the use of flashing yellow arrows to help intersections operate more smoothly.
Officials say flashing yellow lights will allow motorists more time to make turns, but pedestrians crossing the road always have the right-of-way over turning vehicles.
Traffic signals featuring a flashing yellow arrow will be installed at more locations as intersections improvements are made.
