A corrections officer at the Wyoming Correctional Facility was arrested at the scene of a drug overdose Wednesday afternoon.
Cheektowaga Police responded to 80 Charles Street around 6 a.m. for a call of a 24-year-old man suffering a drug overdose.
Officers say they found the victim unresponsive. Officers administered Narcan and the victim became responsive.
"When our officer got there he found a 24-year-old male on the floor unresponsive," said Cheektowaga Assistant Chief Jim Speyer. "The Narcan did save the young man."
Through investigation, officers found another person, Correction Officer Robert Garry, at the scene had supplied the drugs to the victim and stashed the supply.
"He put the drugs into a safe and then hid the safe in a shed nearby," Speyer said.
A search warrant was issued and Cheektowaga Police say Garry, 38, was charged with criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell, criminal possession of a narcotic drug, tow counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
The victim survived and was taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital.
The NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervison released a statement on the arrest:
"CO Robert has been out of the facility on an extended absence and DOCCS’ investigation will determine any future changes to his status."
