Woman in ICU after being hit by a car in Amherst

Police in Amherst say a woman was hit by a car early Sunday morning trying to cross Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Police say the 42-year-old woman, Julie G. Galatioto of Amherst, was trying to cross Niagara Falls Boulevard at 12:25 Sunday morning against the traffic light when she was hit.

The driver of the vehicle was 34-year-old Muhammad K. Sheikh of Lackawanna.

Police say Galatioto was not crossing at the Tonawanda Creek Road intersection but was crossing south of the crosswalk.

She was taken to Erie County Medical Center where she is in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
