"There's a huge need of foster parents right now," Megan Falzone, Gateway Longview intake coordinator, said. "The need is great and it never goes away."

Gateway Longview is an adoption and foster care agency that serves 3,600 children and families.

The agency says there are currently 80 children in Erie County in need of a foster family or an adoptive family.

"The children who come into foster care are going through the worst time of their life and the only thing that they need is a loving home," Falzone said.

On Thursday night, the agency honored dozens of Western New York foster families with a heartfelt thank you banquet during National Foster Care Awareness Month.

Four families received awards.

The agency says nearly 1,000 children in Erie County alone are part of the foster care system every day.
