A day dedicated to registering Americans to vote is taking place today in cities across the country.
According to the National Voter Registration Day website, in 2008, 6 million Americans didn't vote because they missed the deadline or didn't know how to vote.
Throughout the country, organizations will help register and reregister eligible voters as well as answer any questions people may have.
In the state of New York, October 14 is the deadline to register to vote in person, online or by mail.
