BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation unveiled their preferred vision for the First Buffalo River Marina, Wilkeson Pointe to Bell Slip and Terminal B.

The plan, which has been in the works for over a year and work shopped to the public twice before, covers 200 acres of property.

The grain elevator's would be transformed into a beach area with a public restroom and refreshments available.

The plan will include passive and active areas:

  • Five miles of trails
  • Increased access to water's edge
  • More plans to get to the Outer Harbor for fishing
  • Maintaining the Marina
  • Stripping the Terminal B building to create a multi-use, multi-purpose recreational facility

Following tonight's public forum there will need to be an environmental review that could between 6-9 months.

That means construction beginning around early 2020 and taking between 5-10 years to complete.
