AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Town of Amherst will be hosting a neighborhood meeting at Sweet Home Middle School, Tuesday night at 6:30, where the status of the Boulevard Mall will be discussed; informing neighbors of the North Bailey area know what the future holds.

Currently, the Town is conducting a GEIS (Generic environment impact statement) which looks at what needs to be done to accommodate the mixed use nature of the future mall. Things like sewers and roadways may need to be adjusted to accommodate the amount of traffic that is expected. According to Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa, these are things the town will look to address sooner rather than later.

"As this evolves, we're ready, we're taking the steps along with the development," Kulpa said, "we're not going to see the Boulevard Mall held back because the Town of Amherst wasn't ready."

Here's a timeframe of what to expect:

  • January 2020: GEIS completes
  • February 2020: Boulevard Mall rezoned for mixed use
  • Spring 2020: Site plans released
  • Spring 2021: Work starts on the site
