BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Gigi's restaurant held their grand opening at the Northland Workforce Training Center. The original restaurant was destroyed in a fire three years ago.

The long awaited opening is the brain child of original Gigi's owner and founder Blondine Harvin. Harvin would not see the opening of her new restaurant after she passed away last month. Her son, Darryl Wesley Harvin now owns Gigi's.

"This is for her, it's about her," Wesley Harvin said, "She would be very happy, you know, she did not give up on Gigi's you know... she's upstairs looking down."

The new Gigi's will serve their traditional soul food, with some healthier options.

The restaurant is situated right down the hall from where students are learning advanced manufacturing and energy skills to enter the workforce. Signaling a massive change in Buffalo's east side.

"It solidifies this idea that Northland isn't just about the job training," Northland manager Duncan Kirkwood said, "We're also about building a community."

Gigi's will operate from 7am to 9pm.
