ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — Travis Mayer is a two-time Olympic athlete, earning a silver medal in 2002. The Orchard Park native has been living in Colorado, but now, is turning his attention to his hometown, and the place he learned to ski.

Mayer is planning to build a 14,000 square foot Scandinavian spa right on the Holiday Valley property. The spa will include massage rooms, cafe's, three saunas, relaxation space, and hot and cold pools. Mayer is hoping this can resemble many spas in ski villages in the Western US.

"The town is missing an amenity like this. At least we think," Mayer said, "Hopefully we will help this community grow and prosper."

The property, which is near the corner of the 219 and Holiday Valley Road, will be placed behind the Inn at Holiday Valley. The Sunrise chairlift will be directly in front of the spa.

"It's a good fit for us because we're all about outdoor activity and health and sports," Holiday Valley director of marketing Jane Eshbaugh said, "So it just fits perfectly."

The plan is for the spa to begin construction in April, with a planned opening of December of 2020.
