WNY airports ban hoverboards

and last updated

Hoverboards are now banned at both of Western New York's major airports.

According to announcements on the Buffalo Niagara International Airport website, and the Niagara Falls International Airport website, there are concerns about the lithium batteries used in the hoverboards.

The airports say hoverboards can also be called balance boards, gravity boards, or self-balancing devices.

Many airlines have recently banned them in checked and carryon baggage because the lithium batteries are combustible and can start on fire.

These new rules ban hoverboards at both airports, regardless of what airline the owner is using for their trip.  The rules also ban hoverboards in the airport terminals.
