A Williamsville doctor has been sentenced for illegally prescribing and obtaining controlled substances.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Dr. Yusuf Siddiqui, 72, was convicted of obtaining controlled substances by fraud and was sentenced to one year probation.

Prosecutors say Siddiqui wrote prescriptions for hydrocodone and clonazepam to a patient that he had not examined in October 2016. He wrote the prescriptions expecting that he would receive a portion of the medication for his own use.

Prosecutors say Siddiqui picked the individual up from her residence and gave her seven hydrocodone and seven clonazepam pills. Later that day, he drove the individual to a pharmacy where she had the prescriptions filled and took a portion of the prescription.

Siddiqui agreed to surrender his medical license when he plead guilty in January.
