Williamsville Deputy Mayor Christopher DuQuin will face a judge in another jurisdiction in the case of his DWI.
Williamsville Judge Jeffrey F. Voelkl recused himself from trying DuQuin's case. Voelkl said he is referring the case of the New York Office of Court Administration.
Previous story:
DuQuin was scheduled for an arraignment in village court Friday morning, but did not appear because of the moving of the case.
Voelkl wouldn't comment on the record as to the reason for his recusal, but Lucian Chalfen, Director of Communications for the Unified Court System says it's for "obvious reasons." Chalfen said because DuQuin is a member of the village's administration, he shouldn't be tried in village court because, "everyone knows each other."
The case will be sent to an Erie County judge, who will sign an order to move the case to a neighboring jurisdiction. There is no word yet on where the case will be moved.
