In Cheektowaga's continuing quest to get fiber-optic internet service for the central part of town, one councilman is proposing the town install its own fiber lines inside the existing sewer system.
Councilman James Rogowski said he found other areas, and even an off-shore oil driller, have used the idea to extend high-speed internet service with success. Rogowski said the idea would save close to 60 percent off the cost of digging up and installing new underground conduits for fiber lines.
Why is it so important for the town and how could it benefit business development?
7 Eyewitness News reporter Ed Reilly takes a closer look.
