Some residents in neighborhoods around the Love Canal are worried that dangerous chemicals are getting into their homes through basement sewers. The residents believe the chemicals might be leaking out of the Love Canal or are coming from undetected pockets of buried chemicals.
EPA officials tell 7 Eyewitness News that they are confident that the Love Canal is not leaking. Niagara County Health Department officials say they have responded to complaints of substances getting into basements but nothing was found to be "out-of-normal."
However, for some residents, the strange materials create a new level of anxiety as they struggle with health effects that they believe are caused by exposure to dangerous chemicals.
