Icy road conditions caused two cars to collide Wednesday morning on Route 219 near Ellicottville, Cattaraugus County Sheriff's officials said, leaving three adults with serious injuries.

The male driver of a northbound Toyota Camry, Brian Grzyboski, 60, lost control of his vehicle at 11:30 a.m., police said.

The car veered into the southbound lane, where its rear end collided with the front of a Dodge Caravan, driven by Luay Alani, 46.

The female passenger of the Camry, Carolyn Grzybowski, 60, suffered a serious head injury and was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center.

The male driver of the Camry and the male driver of the blue compact car were also taken to ECMC, but by ambulance.

The crash diverted traffic for more than an hour on Route 219, which was reopened around 1 p.m.

Sheriff's Lt. David A. Schuman said icy road conditions were likely to blame, as deputies spent much of the morning pulling cars out of ditches in the area.
