May is Lyme disease Awareness Month. The latest statistics are eye-opening.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease infects 300,000 people a year. Ten times more Americans than previously reported. Lyme disease is also the fastest growing vector-borne, infectious disease in the country.

A bite from a tick that carries Lyme disease can have the same impact on pets. Experts are predicting this will be a huge tick season in Western New York.

Western New York Lyme Group will host a Gala on Saturday, May 19th in Downtown Buffalo to raise money to help families with the cost of treatment.  The City of Buffalo and Niagara Falls are set to light up green on Saturday as well to bring awareness to the disease.
