In a must-watch video caught on video from the Mobil gas station at the corner of Camp Road and Southwestern Boulevard, a Town of Hamburg Highway Foreman, Darren Smith, stops a runaway vehicle from a massive accident.

Anthony Bartholomew says he was on the phone when he left his wife's vehicle at pump eight, little did he realize it was still in 'drive.' Bartholomew didn't know what was happening until the gas station attendant, Amber Lodstro, pointed out that there was a vacancy at pump eight.

“I said '$60 on pump eight,' and she goes, 'Pump seven?' And I was like 'No,' I made sure and I looked and my car wasn’t there," Bartholomew said.“I see this dude gunning his car in front of mine, ran out out jumped in my car, stop it in the middle of the road.”

Smith a 30 year member of the Air Force reserves sprung into action. In a phone interview with 7 Eyewitness News, he said, "I just reacted, maybe that's just something I've learned in the military after all these years."

“It’s a busy intersection, it’s Camp and 20, it’s crazy, I was just shaking, I was shook, I was just freaking out," Bartholomew said. “It was just a freak thing, I got so lucky, so lucky."

Bartholomew offered to pay for Smith's tank of gas or anything he wanted in the store, Smith only accepted a Monster Energy drink.
