3 firefighters injured; 2 dead in California wildfire

A brush fire is burning in Lake Isabella, Calif. More than a thousand structures are threatened, according to Kern County Fire officials. The Kern County Fire Department confirmed that two people have died in the Erskine Fire.

Red cross provides shelter and comfort to Kern River Valley area residents

It started at about 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The Erskin Fire is burning in the Lake Isabella area of Kern County. The fire was at 19,034 acres. Approximately 100 structures have been lost and 1,500 additional structures are threatened. Additional information on structure damage will be posted as damage assessment teams are able to confirm details.

Evacuations have been ordered for Mountain Mesa, South Lake, Squirrel Valley and Yankee Canyon as well as areas between Lake Isabella and Onyx.

The hospital has been evacuated to South Fork school.

Evacuation centers are Kery Valley High School and the Lake Isabella Senior Center.

 
 

The American Red Cross has opened an evacuation center for residents affected at the Kern River Valley Seniors Center.

Officials have also ordered hard closures for several area highways
