U.S. Navy sailors take time to experience Buffalo

The crew of the new USS Little Rock is getting the chance to step away from the ship to see what Buffalo has to offer while in town.

The sailors have been hard at work, putting in the hours as they ready the USS Little Rock for commission on December 16.

The war ship came to Buffalo on Monday, so this is the first real time some of the sailors have been able to have any free time.

Some of them started it off with some ice skating at Canalside. Later on in the evening, they kicked up the speed a bit by go-karting at RPM Raceway at the Walden Galleria.

“Whenever we get some time off, we like to go out and spend some time with each other and do some normal stuff that people like to do on a regular basis,” said Damage Controlman Second Class Victor Sanchez.

While the sailors are allowed to relax, they have a large responsibility ahead of them as the commissioning of the new ship approaches.

The crew has a full week of preparation leading up to the commissioning.
